Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic

Ian Baker-FinchNearly 100 golfers rallied for the IT industry during our Third Annual Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic at the Rio Secco Golf Club in Las Vegas on August 3, in conjunction with CompTIA Breakaway 2009.

IT leaders gained valuable hours of one-on-one time with their key partners. Players and sponsors enjoyed a leisurely start to Breakaway while networking on one of the 100 greatest resort golf courses in the country. Celebrity pro and CBS television analyst Ian Baker-Finch also gave golfers some tips on how to improve their games.

Proceeds from the golf event benefited Creating Futures, which provides career opportunities and training to groups who have historically been under-represented in the IT workforce, including U.S. military veterans, individuals with disabilities, women, minorities, at-risk youth, and dislocated workers.

Save the date for our 2010 Creating Futures Charity Golf Classic to be held at the TPC San Antonio golf course on August 9. Celebrity Golf Pro and CBS Television Analyst Ian Baker-Finch will return for the 2010 event, giving a golf clinic to attendees and discussing humorous highlights of his career with participants.

Randy Trask of Pearson VUE was named the 2010 Golf Tournament Chair. “As a big supporter of the CompTIA Educational Foundation’s Creating Futures program for several years, I have seen the program grow to where thousands of people are receiving the help they need to start a career in IT,” said Trask. “The Charity Golf Classic is a major source of funding to help all the people who want to join our industry. I am honored to be named the 2010 Creating Futures Charity Golf Tournament General Chair and look forward to working with all our sponsors, volunteers and staff to provide the best possible experience for our guests.”

The past three Creating Futures Charity Golf Classics have raised more than $466,000 in total from sponsors and the CompTIA Board matching program. Event sponsors for 2010 can invite their partners to play golf at TPC San Antonio, a brand new golf course that opens next year. Breakaway attendees also can buy foursomes to play in the golf tournament.

Beyond meeting their philanthropic goals and receiving tax benefits, event sponsors reap extra exposure to CompTIA members, Breakaway attendees and the media through the CompTIA Educational Foundation’s pre-show and on-site marketing of the event.
